Swimming Pool

Our Swimming Pool is 25 metres long with eight lanes, each with a touch pad which is ideal for competitions. The pool floor also floats, enabling us to vary the depth of the pool from children’s swimming lessons to water polo matches.

Climbing Wall

The climbing wall facilities have been designed to suit a wide range of abilities. The main room features a 8.5m high wall with a wall specifically for teaching.
There are 17 belay lines available and with colour coded routes, it is possible to complete several different routes from just the one belay line.
The bouldering cave is a good place for the next generation to start or for more experienced climbers to come and hone their skills on the overhang section.
Whether you are a complete beginner or a regular craghopper, our instructors will be happy to help you improve, demonstrate kit and move you on to the next challenge.

The wall has been designed with contribution from world renowned mountaineer and Lancaster University Chancellor, Sir Chris Bonington.

Using the climbing wall:

Our registration process has changed. To register you need to complete a registration form to say that you are taking responsibility for your safety and behavior. In order to fill this form in correctly climbers must be competent in the use of the roped area of the climbing wall. If this is not the case then you could complete a series of our beginners sessions before registering.  Registered climbers may supervise up to 2 unregistered climbers (over the age of 6) but they must sign a supervision form each time they bring them.

Experienced climbers between the age of 14 and 18 may register but need their parent or guardian to fill in and sign the registration form AND witness a competency test (available by appointment). Registered climbers under the age of 18 MAY NOT supervise unregistered climbers.

In Situ ropes are for top roping only. Please DO NOT use them for leading. When leading on your own ropes please pull down in situ ropes and replace them after your climb.

If you do not know how to climb using ropes we recommend that you attend our beginners’ sessions which last for 2 hours and cost £10 each. These sessions are designed to be done in a series so climbers would expect to do a few of these sessions before being able to use the climbing wall unsupervised. The minimum age for this session is 14 years.

We also offer taster sessions for people who want to try out climbing these are great sessions for families. Children under the age of 14 attending these sessions must have a parent or guardian on site for the duration of the session. Children under the age of 10 must have a participating adult. Minimum age is 6.

We now run refresher sessions which are one hour long and are for people who haven’t been climbing for a while and just need a confidence boost or an update on current best practice.

Children’s classes are available from ages 6-17. They are run through 6 week courses. Please contact Alice for more information and booking.

Online booking is now available for the Beginner, Taster and Refresher classes.

Climbing Wall vouchers are available at the discounted rate of 15 climbs for the price of 12 - adults vouchers cost £60.00, whilst children and concessionary rates are £36.00.

Any queries about the climbing wall please contact Alice at a.benson1@lancaster.ac.uk
