Introducing children to the water, whilst developing confidence and basic stroke movement. PLEASE NOTE: Parents must accompany children in the water.
Introducing children to the water, whilst developing confidence and basic stroke movements leading to independent swimming. This course will work towards Duckling 1/2/3.
For non swimmers, this stage covers the initial process of introducing children into the water and aims to develop basic safety awareness, movement and water confidence skills. To move onto STAGE 2 children must be able to swim without support.
Build a sound foundation of watermanship skills, develop safe entries into the water, basic floating, travel on front and back up to a distance of 5m and rotation to upright positions. Children will experiment with different methods of using their limbs for propulsion as well as being introduced to treading water. To move onto STAGE 3 children must be able to tread water, swim without support on their front and/or back 25m of a basic standard and be confident in deep water.
Develop confidence, initiative, judgement, teamwork and leadership. Children will also develop safe entries into water including submersion, rotation skills and water safety knowledge, as well as building on front and back propulsion.
Improve upon watermanship skills and stroke technique whilst developing an understanding of buoyancy through a range of skills. To move onto STAGE 5 children must pass stage 4 and swim 50m to a basic standard.
Develop watermanship through sculling, treading water and complete rotation. Swimmers will perform all strokes to a high standard over a short distance. To move onto STAGE 6 swimmers must pass stage 5 and swim 100m to a basic standard.
Develop to a more efficient level including co-ordinated breathing across all strokes. Children will be given an understanding of preparation for exercise. To move on to STAGE 7 swimmers must pass stage 6 and swim 200m competently.
Develop all strokes to a high standard, whilst incorporating skills learnt and combining them to develop a linked routine. Test all skills learnt on stages 1-7 with an obstacle course.
Once swimmers have developed the core skills required through stages 1-7, they will then have the choice to try a different aquatic disipline; either Water Polo, Diving, Competative Swimming or Synchronized Swimming.
The aim of the course is to develop confidence, initiative, judgement, teamwork and leadership skills. The course is divided in to four elements: water safety, self rescue, rescue and emergency response.
For children swimming four strokes to a high standard. The training sessions are aimed to develop the speed and endurance in each swimmer through coaching technique as well as looking at the technical aspects of an individual’s strokes to achieve maximum performance.
Children will be introduced to the basic skills of water polo. Please note that children must be able to swim 50m.
